Central boys breeze by Harmony

DONNELLSON - Unlike the varsity girls game right before it, the Central Lee vs. Harmony varsity boys basketball game wasn't in doubt after the first few minutes.

After Harmony High School's Gunnar Mills scored the first basket of the game, Central Lee rattled off the next 11 points with four different players scoring: Kyle Krauter, Lance Kramer, Sam Miller, Andrew Mathison and then Krauter added a 3-pointer to cap off the run.

Brad Vogel had an off night with only six points total, but Central Lee cruised to an 89-39 victory over a struggling Harmony team last Friday night at the Hawks' gym.

Central finished the first half with a 9-0 run to lead 42-18. The Hawks had a 20-2 run in the third quarter and led 70-28 going into the final eight minutes.

Mathison led the Hawks with 17 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three blocks.


But the next leading scorer was Brandon Pezley. He was the fourth player off the bench but in the second and third quarters he shot 7 of 8 from the field. Two of those baskets were put-backs under the basket and two from behind the 3-point arc.

Kyle Krauter scored 12 points, 10 in the first half, and he also made four steals. Spencer Peterson came in the game early but proved to be a late-bloomer on offense. Aftering being in a supporting role in the first three quarters, he ended up making his final four shots in the fourth quarter for eight points. Miller also had eight points, six rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Matt Kurtz added eight points...
